Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez was successful again at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, making this four consecutive wins there, confirming the circuit to be ‘one of my favourite,’ according to the Spaniard.

Marquez dominated all weekend bar the Warm Up session on the morning of the race where he was unable to find his rhythm, however the Spanish winner remained, “very happy with how the whole weekend [went],” he told the media afterwards.

Marquez pleased with tyre change

As a result of the Warm Up practice, Marquez said they “decided to run the soft tyre,” a decision he felt was the right one.

The change gave me the good feeling with the bike that I had partly lost in the warm-up.” Marquez gave full credit to his team saying, “I have to thank them as well as the Michelin Technician.

When they advised him on this change for the race they told him that the soft tyre “would be OK for the first 12 to 15 laps”, he was told that after that he would have to “manage the situation more”.

Winning run

The Spanish rider has won here the last three times and his victory this season makes this four consecutive wins. Marquez said: “We’ve taken another victory here in Austin and are now on a run of four which is great.

Marquez took an early lead towards the beginning of the first lap, and no one was able to come close to him. He finished with over a six second lead ahead of Jorge Lorenzo despite being a second off the pace they ran at the year before.

He remains top of the championship with 66 points; he is ahead of Lorenzo who has 45 points and rival Movistar Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi who has 33 points.

Marquez finished by saying: “The joy of the team after we won illustrates everything we’re working on. In these first three races of this year, we’ve made good use of the situations that we’ve encountered.”
