England and Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell has signed a 'long-term contract extension' with his club and has said that he is 'chuffed' with the news.

Farrell made his comeback from a knee injury in Saturday's European Champions Cup 13-9 semi-final defeat against Clermont Auvergne, the first time he'd taken to the field since January.

The No10 missed all of England's heart-breaking Six Nations campaign, in which they narrowly lost out to Ireland on a thrilling final day. Farrell was replaced by Bath's George Ford for the tournament, though the Saracens' goal-kicker is expected to be a key man in England's bid to win the World Cup on home soil this autumn.

The 23-year-old has amassed over 100 appearances for his club already and is nearing a 30th England cap. He gave his thoughts on his new deal, "I have loved every minute that I've had at Saracens, and how we've been going over the last few years.

"Hopefully, we can continue to get better and better. I owe a lot to this club, in terms of how I have improved as a player and how I've done in my career. Hopefully, I've given as much to the club in return." He finished by saying, "I am really looking forward to ripping into the rest of the season and the years ahead."

Saracens director of rugby, Mark McCall, added: “Owen is one of the leading players in Europe, if not the world, so for him to commit his long-term future to the club is fantastic news.

“He is another player who has progressed through the ranks at Saracens to become a key player for club and country. He is a Saracen through and through, and his hunger and drive to keep on improving is exceptional."

Former Ulster coach McCall finished by saying, “The whole club is looking forward to seeing him at Allianz Park over the coming years."
