In a massive blow to Wales' World Cup preparations, Jonathan Davies has ruptured his ACL playing for Clermont Auvergne in France.

The injury was picked up during the club's recent match against Montpellier in the Top14, with the 48-cap centre ruled out for six to seven months.

It is a huge disruption to coach Warren Gatland's plans, with Davies having been the sides' starting outside centre for the past couple of years, forging an excellent partnership with Jamie Roberts

Wales do have a more than capable replacement, with Scott Williams expected to step up and take the number 13 shirt on the back of Davies' disappointment.

There is also likely to be a call-up for young Dragons centre Tyler Morgan when Wales announce their training squad for the World Cup on June 8th.

Gatland said, "It's a disappointment for Jonathan and for us, but the advice is for him to have surgery straight away.

"Obviously, the injury rules him out of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but our focus is his long-term career, and we will be working closely with him during his recovery looking towards the 2016 Six Nations."
