European club rugby returned last weekend, with a number of English clubs starting with impressive victories.

The terrorist attacks in Paris saw a number of games quite rightly postponed, with the French nation given time to mourn what was a horrific event.

All games scheduled to take place in France were called off, and will be rearranged for a later date.

Wasps destroy Leinster at the RDS

In the toughest pool of them all, Wasps got off to a flyer, beating Leinster 33-6 on the road.

Charles Piutau looks like a sensational signing for Dai Young's side, adding to a back three which includes Christian Wade and Frank Halai

Wade scored the only try in the opening half after Dave Kearney was beaten by a cruel bounce of the ball, to give Wasps a ten-point lead at the break.

The visitors then turned on the style after the break, dominating the set piece and scoring two amazing tries through Joe Simpson and Piutau for the impressive victory.

In contrast, Leinster were a shambles and face a must-win game next weekend away at Bath, who's game at Toulon was postponed on the opening weekend.

Saracens breeze past Toulouse

With the wind a major factor at Allianz Park, Saracens made it pay with a mightily impressive opening half which saw them grab a 32-7 win over Toulouse

A number of young English forwards were integral to the Saracens win, with Jamie George, Mako Vunipola and Maro Itoje all at the forefront of a dominant display.

Vunipola opened the scoring, with Chris Wyles adding a try brace as Sarries raced out into a 33-0 lead. They failed to add the bonus point try which may be crucial come the final pool standings, with Toulouse replacement hooker Christiopher Tolofua scoring a consolation try in the second half. Oyonnax's home game with Ulster in the same pool was postponed.

Leicester & Munster grab bonus point Pool 4 victories

On Friday evening, Leicester Tigers beat Stade Francais 33-20 at Welford Road, with debutant Brendon O'Connor grabbing all of the plaudits.

Flanker O'Connor has joined from the Blues Super Rugby franchise, and scored one of the four Tigers tries in a win over the French champions.

Vereniki Goneva showed off his finishing prowess with the opener, before O'Connor, Matt Smith and Ben Youngs added tries of their own to confirm the five match points.

For Stade, Julien Tomas, Paul Williams and Julien Arias each crossed for tries, yet they fell short and left Welford Road with zero points.

Elsewhere in pool 4, Munster left it late before confirming the inevitable bonus point win over Treviso, who are still without a win this season. BJ Botha, Simon Zebo, Duncan Casey and man-of-the-match CJ Stander for Munster's tries.

Anglo-Welsh matchups see two home victories

In the two games between English and Welsh sides, the home sides prevailed in close affairs.

Northampton squeezed past the Scarlets on Saturday evening thanks to tries from Ken Pisi and Alex Waller, with the Welsh sides late fightback led by try-scoring sensation Gareth Davies falling just short in a 15-11 defeat.

In the final game of the round, a late Josh Matavesi interception try confirmed the Ospreys 25-13 win over Exeter at the Liberty Stadium. A Dan Biggar-inspired Ospreys side put their poor league form behind them to beat the Chiefs who had grabbed a lead at the break thanks to James Short's five-pointer.

Matches elsewhere between Racing 92 & Glasgow and Bordeaux & Clermont were postponed to be played at a later date after the harrowing events in Paris on Friday evening which overshadowed the opening weekend of European rugby.
