Since 1990, the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament has been part of the ATP World Tour and the 2014 edition is one of the most competitive yet. Defending champion Juan Martin del Potro is the top seed, after Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka withdrew from the tournament with a leg injury. Andy Murray is seeded 2nd, receiving a wildcard after helping Great Britain to the Davis Cup quarter-finals.

ROTTERDAM SEEDS

1. Juan Martin del Potro

2. Andy Murray

3. Tomas Berdych

4. Richard Gasquet

5. Jo-Wilfred Tsonga

6. Tommy Haas

7. Mikhail Youzhny

8. Grigor Dimitrov

This is Del Potro's first tournament since his disappointing 2nd round exit to Roberto Bautista-Agut at the Australian Open, although he did rise up to world number four following the first Grand Slam of the year. There were rumours that the Olympic bronze medalist were to pull out of the event with a wrist injury, yet he will take part in Holland, where he'll face a tricky 1st round encounter against the energetic Gael Monfils. If seeds pan out correctly, Del Potro will meet Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals, with the Czech looking to continue his excellent start to the year, following his last-four appearance in Melbourne.

Murray faces Open Sud de France quarter-finalist Edouard Roger-Vasselin in Round One, although he will most likely have to overcome Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet if he is to reach the final; the Scot won this title back in 2009. The home crowd have three fellow countrymen all in the bottom-half of the draw, in the form of Thiemo de Bakker, Igor Sijsling and Jesse Huta Galung to cheer on, whilst Milos Raonic, Benoit Paire and Jurgen Melzer all withdrawing from the tournament before it gets underway.

Prediction:

A very competitive field in Holland, but I'm going to back the in-form man Berdych. The former Wimbeldon finalist had a disappointing and inconsistent 2013, but he has started this year meaning business.
