In a match between two close friend, John Isner defeated American counterpart Jack Sock in routine style to help his French Open preparation and reach the quarter finals of the Nice Open. Isner has endured a poor clay court season, and a good run in Nice will be a big confidence booster ahead of Roland Garros.

Martin Klizan was left seething after defeat to Ernests Gulbis, after dropping the 1st set. Gulbis doesn't have a great reputation, and afterwards said "I p****d him off a little bit, it worked in my favour. One less friend on the tour."

Young Austrian Dominic Thiem was beaten by Giles Simon in three tough sets. On his Facebook page, Thiem wrote "We both did not play a good match and the wind was not helping the level too." "To have a chance to beat a Gilles Simon I have to be at 100 percent. 95 or 98 percent are by far not enough."
