Ernests Gulbis showed what he is capable of with a crushing victory over Albert Montanes. The Latvian only lost one point on his 1st serve, and although Montanes was far from his best, Gulbis was simply brilliant. "He allowed me to play. I felt confident from the first rally on. I had good timing. The first set was one of the best sets I have played.”

Gulbis has won all five of his ATP finals, and will hope to maintain that 100% against Federico Delbonis on Saturday. The Argentine, much to the discontent of the home supporters, knocked out 4th seed Gilles Simon in a confident two set win. This is Delbonis' second final of 2014, and his third overall. Delbonis compared the final to his match against John Isner, which he won, saying “The final will be very similar to the match against Isner. Ernests has a strong service. If I am focused, I will always have a chance.”
