Today saw the return of Andy Murray to the courts.  Aiming to qualify for the World Tour Finals in London, Andy accepted a wild card into the tournament in Vienna making him the 2nd seed.  His first match was the second round tie (he received a bye in the first round) was against Vasek Popisil.  The World Number 11 and the World Number 44 have never met before on the tour, so this was going to be a match that could go either way.

In the first set and it was very cat and mouse as both players held their nerve and serve, with break chances coming and going until game 9.  This is where Andy got the break to lead 5-4, he just had to hold his serve for the first set.  He had little difficulty in doing this, one set down, one more to go.

In the second set and Vasek held his serve in the first game, as did Andy, then he broke and held, suddenly we were at 3-1 to AndyVasek then held onto his next service game to pull back to 3-2.  Andy then had a very sloppy game and handed the break straight back, we were then at 3-4 as Vasek held.  The next game would be crucial for Andy and he held his serve (albeit with a bit of a wobble, going down 0-40 before getting it back) 4-4.  Vasek could not hold onto his next service game as Andy pounced, one more game for the match and it would be on his own serve.  Andy made quick work of that game and took the match 6-4, 6-4.

With Milos Raonic falling at this stage in Moscow, this win has also boosted Andy's changes of qualifying for the WTF, but he needs a good run here and Valencia before the final masters of the year in Paris.
