This semifinal at the Sarasota Challenger promises to be a mouth watering contest between two seasoned pro clay court specialists, both who bide their trade mostly on the south American challenger tour. The clay here is Har-tru, plays slightly faster with a slightly lower bounce compared to the regular red stuff. Both south American players haven't struggled to adjusting however as on their route here Federico Delbonis and Renzo Olivo have not dropped a set.

Delbonis is a quality clay court player, but very prone to struggling and finding it tricky against a certain breed of opponent. These tend to be the one's who have a lot of variety and can switch to giving you little pace to work with. Olivo comes under that breed. He is hugely talented and possesses bundles of variety (junk ball arsenal) as well as a heavy forehand. The combination of slice, dice, and heavy topspin power is something that this columnist anticipates that Delbonis is going to struggle with in this match-up. In this columnists view; Olivo will be able to break up the robotic forehand and backhand rhythm Delbonis has going from the back. This baseline rhythm Delbonis is very adjusted and attuned to playing with. Recent proof is the match against Devvarman two days ago where Delbonis was making outlandish errors from no pace balls landing barely past the service line. Delbonis does possess good touch, but he still struggles with over all changes of pace in rallies.

I do feel Delbonis probably will just about come through this one and win, though with a lot of difficulty. Olivo's a hot and cold player player that tends to play the scoreboard very often. He plays better when he is behind in the scoreboard. He is a bit like Delbonis in that sense, but more extreme.

Both guys are players that are able to take their games to a quite high level when they have confidence and momentum to thrive off, however when the momentum and confidence aren't there, things get messy. A very close and topsy-turvy encounter is what this columnist anticipates.

Either player in an extremely tight three sets, though leaning towards that player being Delbonis.
