Andy Murray goes into his quest for a second Wimbledon title and third grand Slam title as the number three seed, this is no surprise as he goes in to the tournament as the world number three. Seeded one and two are the world number one and two, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. All three are former champions at the All England Club
Another former champion Rafael Nadal is only seeded tenth for the championships having slipped down the ranking, due to injuries and poor form. Nadal failed to a tournament in the clay court period of the season, a period where he normally picks up numerous titles. Nadal warm-up for Wimbledon has been mixed, winning the tournament in Stuttgart, but then being knocked out in the first round at Queen’s Club last week.
Murray went out in the quarter-finals last year as the defending champion, he will be looking to go a few steps further year, having had a good run of results recently, winning back to back tournaments on clay in the build-up to the French Open. His first tournament wins on clay and then reaching the semi-finals of the French Open and coming from two set down in the semis against Djokovic before just falling short in the fifth set.
Women’s Seedings
Serena Williams is the number one seed in the women’s draw as she looks to win her sixth Wimbledon title, Serena is looking to win her 20th Grand Slam title and despite struggling for a good few years with injuries she has returned to the top of the women’s game, winning the US Open at the end of last year, and winning the Australian Open and French Open this year.
Another former champions at the All England Club is Maria Sharapova and she is seeded number two for this year’s tournament, as she looks to add another Wimbledon title to the one she won in 2004. Sharapova has been a force at the top of the women’s game for a number of years, after struggling with injury though for a few years she appears to be back at the top of her game and ready to challenge for the Wimbledon title once more
