Serena Williams strolled into the Australian Final, and her second consecutive one, after beating fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-0 6-4.
Serena proves too good for the Pole
Winning the first set 6-0 in just 22 minutes, the world number one set an ominous tone for Radwanska. With the Pole winning just seven points in the whole set it was clear that Williams had the final in her sights.
The second set started with a huge cheer as Radwanska held serve for the first time in the match. She was to put up much more of a fight in the second set as although she was broke again, Radwanska managed to earn the break back. However it was to be shortlived as Williams broke at 4-4 giving herself the chance to serve the match. Doing so to love, the American advanced to her seventh Australian Open final.
Heading into the tournament this year there were many doubts over whether Williams would be able to continue her form from 2015 due to her fitness and her heartbreaking loss to Roberta Vinci in the US Open semi-finals. However she has destroyed any murmurs of her not being able to get back to her best as she has breezed through to the final. After beating Maria Sharapova in last year’s final the top seed will be confident of retaining her crown and starting off her 2016 with yet another Grand Slam.
Will it ever happen for Radwanska?
Radwanska will be relatively pleased with her form after losing her first match this year having won her previous ten matches this year. After going out in the fourth round she will see it as an improvement upon last year. However it will be of concern to her as she searches for a maiden Grand Slam title that she keeps falling short and questions will remain as to whether she will ever win one of the four slams.
Williams opponent in the final is Angelique Kerber after the German ended Johanna Konta's great run.
