So that’s it for Andy Murray in the first week of this year’s French Open, and he will be back in action on Tuesday to take on the quarter-finals. I hope you’ve enjoyed this live coverage, and you can continue to read many more live blogs and match reports throughout the French Open on our dedicated Vavel tennis page. For now though it’s goodbye.

"It was difficult conditions with the rain and to go into the rain delay with an advantage was very important."

"I got lucky with the opening set point that Isner had in the first, I guessed the right way and got the winner” say Murray after the match.

The Brit will have to get some extra hitting practise in after playing two matches against giant servers in a row, even so he should be fresh going into the second week.

Isner provided a tougher test than Karlovic and came out all guns blazing in the opening set. Murray got a bit lucky on set point but once he edged his noise in front it was a very professional performance. You could see the confidence drain from Isner who was made to play shot after shot on his own serve as Murray chased down his shots.

Murray is now through to the quarter-finals of the French Open for the sixth time in his career. It was another professional performance from the British number one, who has now brought down two giant servers in straight sets.

7-6 6-4 6-3 GAME SET AND MATCH MURRAY! The Brit saves break point at 30-40 with an ace out wide and then earns match point as Isner sends a return long. Another ace seals the match and books Murray’s place in the quarter-final where he will face either Gasquet or Nishikori.

7-6 6-4 *5-3 Isner asks the serve it out question with a quick hold.

7-6 6-4 5-2* Murray saves two break points with two big serves. Isner hands him the game as he sprays a forehand wide.

7-6 6-4*4-2 Two double faults in one game from Isner but he serves his way out of trouble.

7-6 6-4 4-1* More great serving from Murray, he’s really mixed it up well and kept Isner guessing throughout this match. Meanwhile on the Philippe Chatrier court Richard Gasquet has just gone two sets up against Kei Nishikori, the winner will play Murray providing he gets the job done here.

7-6 6-4 *3-1 MURRY BREAKS! After saving two break points Isner dumps a drop shot into the net. The American certainly won’t have faced this in his previous three matches, Murray is making him play ball after ball and moving Isner around the court magnificently.

7-6 6-4 2-1* More drop shots from Murray works a treat, he even throws a audacious lob in there at 40-0. Isner is 6 ft 10 remember.

7-6 6-4 *1-1 Big hold from Isner to keep this match alive, the American once again shows some great hand skills around the net to back up that ginormous serve.

7-6 6-4 1-0* The stats don’t make good reading for Isner who has only come back from two sets down once in his career. Despite playing a great first set the American looks very dejected now, he needs to regroup fast.

7-6 6-4 THERE’S THE BREAK AND THE SET. Murray has been threatening to make a move the last couple of games and he has finally done it at the best possible time. He has continuously picked the American’s serve and returned the ball low at Isner’s feet.  At 30-40 the Brit plays an entertaining cat and mouse point to seal a two set lead.

7-6 5-4* Isner is making it difficult for himself, as he hands Murray another quick hold on serve after a couple of unforced errors. He will now serve to stay in the set.

7-6 *4-4 Wow! What a hold that was from Isner. 0-30 down but comes up with four monster serves. The next few games are going to be pivotal.

7-6 4-3*Despite the criticism he keeps dishing out to himself, Murray is doing a good job of keeping his nose in front. Another comfortable service game puts the pressure back on back on the American.

7-6 *3-3 Break point saved by Isner with an acute half volley at 30-40. Murray continues to chunter to himself but is getting a good read on the Isner serve.

7-6 3-2* A double fault at 40-0 nearly comes back to bite Murray, as then sends a backhand wide to make it 40-30. The Brit holds with a calculated serve down the tee.

7-6 *2-2 Isner saves two break points after the re-start, both with unreturned serves, one with a huge ace out wide.

The players are back on court, just to recap Murray leads by a set and by two games to one. Deuce on Isner’s serve, big game to resume on.

Great New! The covers are off expecting play to resume very soon.

News that there will be no play until 4:45 UK time, will keep you posted with any more updates.

7-6 2-1* PLAY SUSPENDED! Murray gets close to making another breakthrough as he gets to deuce, however the rain hats proceedings.7-6 2-1* ‘Come on, fire up’ shouts Murray. A couple of loose first serves allowed Isner to take him to deuce but the Brit holds.

7-6 *1-1 Good response from Isner, he will still be frustrated after letting that first set slip but he didn’t show it there. Can he keep it up?

7-6 1-0* Murray picks up where he left off, comfortable hold at the start of the second.

(11-9) What a set of tennis! It took over an hour but Murray has the first set in his pocket. He capitalises on an Isner second serve to take a marathon breaker. That must be deflating for the American, how will he react?

(9-9) Tie break stays on serve as both save more set points.

(6-6) Set point saved by Murray with a spectacular backhand pass.

(4-2) Great start from Murray, he wins the opening point on Isner's serve and protects his own serve will to lead at the changeover.

6-6* Another hold to love for Murray. Time for tie break.

*5-6 Isner is showing that he has far more than just a big serve. He holds and with some huge forehands and good touch around the net. Pressure back on Murray.

5-5* It’s getting towards crunch time in the opening set. Murray is doing a good job of moving Isner around on his own serve and holds to love.

*4-5 Murray is scarpering around at the back of the court chasing down the powerful groundstrokes from the giant American.  The Brit will now serve to stay in the set.

4-4* Murray happy to trade with Isner from the back of the court but needs to be careful of missed first serves. Isner doesn’t need an invitation to attack the return.

*3-4 Isner is taking risks and going big on his second serve. Murray is start to get a read on it but is still yet to make a breakthrough after taking the American to deuce.

3-3* Murray gets away with it, as Isner earns another break point at 30-40. The American cracks a second return which hits the line but is called out. Murray serves an ace when the point is replayed. Still on serve.

*2-3 Murray wins the first point to get to 0-15 but apply any more pressure. Isner holds.

2-2* First break point goes to Isner but Murray holds. A double fault from the Brit at 40-15 gives Isner a chance and the American wins three points in a row to get to break point. Murray saves it with a decent serve before sealing the game following a couple of missed groundstrokes from Isner.

*1-2 Boom! A huge ace down the tee from Isner sees him retake the lead, could be a long afternoon for Murray if that continues.

1-1* Murray throws in a couple of drop shots early on, as he tries to test Isner's movement. The Brit holds his opening service game.

*0-1 Isner holds. The American puts away a big forehand before a missed return from Murray. An Isner backhand hits the net before he sends one long to make it 30 all. Two big serves get him out of the game

Isner wins the toss and elects to serve. ‘Ready Play’.

A lot of talk about Murray's split with coach Amelie Mauresmo this week, why not have a read of Jack Haugh’s article looking back at their time together.

The players are on court. Andy Murray introduced as ‘the man from Scotland’ and receives a welcoming reception from the Suzanne Lenglen crowd.

Rogers beats Begu. Murray v Isner will be up next.

Milos Raonic has just suffered a shock straight sets defeat to Albert Ramos-Vinolas on Suzanne Lenglen. It means that Murray- Isner will follow the women’s match between Irina-Camelia Begu and Shelby Rogers.

The match is scheduled to be the third match on the Suzanne Lenglen court, the same arena where Murray beat Ivo Karlovic, but could be delayed due to rain.

"He's played the big points better than me, which is one of the reasons why he's number two in the world. So I'm going to have to step up when I get opportunities - if I get them.”

"He's definitely got some reps in against a pretty big serve," said the American. "But my serve is a little bit different. I think I can back it up better, as well."

Murray should be helped by his meeting with the giant Karlovic in the last round, and that is a factor which Isner is aware of.

They have met several times recently, including at Isner's home Grand Slam back at the US Open back in 2011, when he lost to Murray in four sets 7-5 6-4 3-6 7-6(2). They also met in the Davis Cup last year where Murray won in straight sets.

At 6 ft 10 Isner has arguably the biggest serve in the game, however he has only reached the quarter final of a Grand Slam event on one previous occasion.

Isner has never beaten Murray in their five previous meetings, the most recent of which came at the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai, where Murray recorded a tight 6-7(4) 6-4 6-4 victory.

In contrast Isner, the 15th seed at this year’s competition, needed five sets to overcome Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili in the third round. The American recovered from two sets to one down before finally prevailing 7-6 4-6 2-6 6-4 6-2, Isner also beat Australia’s John Milman and Britain’s Kyle Edmund to reach the last 16.

After coming through two tough five setters in the opening two rounds, Murray was superb against the big serving Ivo Karlovic in his last match which he won 6-1 6-4 7-6 (3).
