Persistent rain forced play to stop at Eastbourne as Johanna Konta looked to face Ekaterina Makarova and Agnieszka Radwanska faces Dominika Cibulkova in the quarterfinals. Three games took place in total, while two were suspended mid play. One game is still to be played.

Play was also affected by rain on Thursday, which saw Karolina Pliskova and Misaki Doi’s game suspended as well as Makarova and Andrea Petkovic battle halted. The two games were restarted this morning and saw Pliskova beat Doi in two straight sets. Pliskova won 6-2 6-4. Makarova also won her game against Petkovic after loosing the first set 3-6. Makarova bounced back to win the next two sets 6-4 6-0.

Only one quarterfinal game took place today. This saw Monica Puig beat Kristina Mladenovic 7-6 (6) 4-6 6-3. The game saw both players struggle to hold a serve as Puig faced 23 break points in the match and Mladenoci 13. The result secures Puig’s place in the semi-final, as she will face wither Radwanska or Cibulkova.

Suspended games

Number one seed  Radwanska led her tie 6-4 2-0 before the rain hit and her match was suspended. The game was resumed at 18:40 BST with the score being 6-4 3-2 before the match was suspended by event organisers for the day. The game will restart at 11.00 on centre court, weather permitting. 

There was brief action for Plinskova and Elena Vesnina before play was suspended. Plinskova raced to a 4-0 score line before rain stopped play and the players were forced off. The match will restart at 11.30 on court one.

British women’s number one Johanna Konta is yet to play her quarterfinal game against Makarova due to the weather postponing the match. The winner of this match will play either Vesnina or Pliskova in the semi-finals.
