Following an impressive loan spell at Birmingham City last year, 19-year-old Manchester City academy graduate Emyr Huws has been rewarded with an opportunity to further his development with a 6-month-loan deal at the DW Stadium. After becoming a regular in the Birmingham side battling relegation and ending 21st in the Championship last term, Huws finished off a fine season with a call up to the senior Wales squad for their friendly against the Netherlands. Huws has now been challenged to take his development to the next level by joining Wigan Athletic, who placed 5th last season, and all who know him agree that he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

The future looks bright for Huws, with Birmingham manager Lee Clark saying:

"I knew he was a talented player, but in the three games he's played he's been outstanding and was the standout player at Vicarage Road on Tuesday. When I talked to the people at Manchester City, they felt that he had a massive future at their football club and the games he's had for us will only enhance that reputation....."

The 19-year-old is currently with City on their pre-season tour of the USA but will return to join up with Latics during the pre-season. Wigan boss Uwe Rosler joined Lee Clark in his praise of Huws saying:

"City are looking for Emyr to develop and as we have demonstrated in the past, top young players are able to come to us and improve, both on the field with regular playing time, but also off the field in terms of absorbing our first team training culture and discipline and helping them to improve every facet of their professional life.

He is a very exciting player, I know him after working with him during a short spell I spent at City’s Academy in 2010-11 and he is clearly a very talented young player who has already broken through to the national squad, plus has played in the Championship"
