Cable And Deadpool The Movie:  But Who Is Cable?
Who's Cable? He's a bad @$$ Marvel hero. image source "pinterest.com"

As if the Deadpool movie alone wasn't enough to make us all as giddy as school girls, now we could possibly be getting Deadpool with his former arch enemy turn bosom buddy in a movie together. Nathan Daysrping Askani'son Soldier X Summers (or Cable for short) could possibly be joining Deadpool in Deadpool 2. Apparently, Fox is already setting things in motion for the next Deadpool movie and the first one hasn't even come out yet. It could be in part that this has easily been the best promotion for a movie ever. This is amazing news for fans of Deadpool and the X-Men. But what about those people who don't read comics? Why should they care about Cable and who the heck is he anyway?

Cable is the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) who was sent to the future after he was infected with a techno organic virus as a baby (it's Marvel Comics, just go with it). Staying in the present would have killed baby Nathan Summers, but because the future apparently has better health insurance, Nathan was saved. Well, saved is more of a loose term. Cable still had the virus inside him (the techno organic virus is the reason he has the metal arm). Thankfully Cable's telekinetic powers keep the virus from overrunning his body completely. But the downfall is that Cable doesn't have access to his telepathy or telekinesis.

What you may remember about Cable from the cartoon is being a soldier who travels from the future to the present and back in order to prevent his future of constant war from happening. Since he already knows the events of the past, this gives him insight on what events have set things in motion for Apocalypse to start a seemingly endless war. The part that is difficult for Cable is knowing that every decision won't always be as easy as stopping the bad guy. Sometimes his mission is stopping the good guys from winning, allowing a good person to be hurt or killed, and even making sure that his eternal enemy Apocalypse is reborn. But as Cable has said "I've seen Apocalypse kill billions. And every single one f them is on "my back". That's why I keep facing forward". Cable is aware that his job means people will die. Cable also realizes that someone has to make the hard decisions and so Cable is more than happy to make these decisions for the world.

One more important note to remember is that Cable ran a team of mutants called "X-Force". This team consisted of his right hand Domino, Cannonball, Siryn, Feral, Warpath, Boom Boom, and Shatterstar, and Rictor. A young group of mutants who Cable picked to help him reshape the future. Unlike Professor Xavier and Cyclops, Cable informed his team that sometimes killing is the right thing to do. While they may not have agreed or even followed through Cable's teachings, they understood the risks and consequences of failing their missions. X-Force is also a FOX show (or movie. It's flip flopped), so it wouldn't be a shocker to see the X-Force team in a Deadpool movie.

Cable becoming a father to Hope was a big part of his life.

Cable may seem like a very monotone character with no personality other than serious and, honestly, that is true at times. That's why he is usually surrounded by other characters who aren't as bland as he can sometimes be. As time went on and different writers got a hold of Cable, he developed a personality. He started being more than just a big guy carrying an even bigger gun. He became a person who cared about the people he was with as well as the mission and even developed a sense of humor. That topped with being a father figure and protector to the "mutant messiah" Hope Summers, Cable became a more compelling character. When he and Deadpool eventually get together in a buddy movie or as rivals Cable will shine bright and people will really get a chance to see how great Nathan Summers really is.
