Saturday night’s Go Boxing feature showcased the post retirement fight fight for “Sugar" Shane Mosley (48-9-1). He took on Ricardo Mayorga (31-8-1) in a fight that was more theatrics than showmanship. Leading up to the fight many thought this would be the case as everything from the weigh-ins to the early promotion incited this type of reaction. All was not lost on the night though as we saw a great women's boxing battle between Yulihan Alejandra Luna Avila and Maureen Shea for the IBF World Female Super Bantamweight Title. The fight unfortunately ended in a draw but was still an exciting match up that begs for a rematch.

The 40 somethings in Mosley and Mayorga tried their hardest to make this a fight to watch but as the experts all knew it would not be easy. The fight itself showcased a one fighter out of shape and another that is no longer the contender he wants to be. Still Mosley went to work with his jab while Ricardo looked to prove his chin could deal with the once retired fighter. The theatrics started in the second round after Mayorga hit Mosely with a few decent shots. When Shane countered to lay a couple devastating rights on Ricardo is when the dancing and taunting started. It at least got the crowd into the fight but in the corner Mosley’s father implored him to continue going for the body. It worked in the third as a shot to the liver sent Ricardo sprawling to the mat. After the 10 count was over the fight ended and Shane recorded his 40th knock out. It looks as if he wants to continue fighting but it was clear that the promotional work mixed with the training may have been too much for him at this stage. Shane is still a name in the sport so there is a chance that the right opponent will surface to draw another pay per view payday.

Maureen Shea (24-2) and Yulihan Alejandra Luna Avila (12-2) went head to head in a fight for the Super Bantamweight crown. The fight seemed to go in Shea’s favor early as her aggressiveness and work gave her an early edge. Heading into round six the champ started to find her footing and quickly turn the tide on her favor. She started to land a few good shots to the face of Shea that stunned her even though Maureen pressed forward. Her corner seemed to think she still up in the fight but Shea kept the pedal pushing forward. It seemed as if she possibly had a flurry that could have given her the decision late but the judges felt otherwise. Both women are anxious to do this again so we should here of a rematch soon. Overall it was not a bad pay per view but one that clearly showed where Mosely is in his career.
