Classification

El Salvador's coach stressed the importance of having qualified and took the pressure off the final result, whatever it may be, against Mexico:

"For us the game is important because of the kind of team we have in front of us. Whether we win or come second, it doesn't matter much because the three teams in the other group are also important. At the end of the day we are already qualified.

July 18, 2021 9:04 PM ET

Demand the best from us

Gerardo Martino assumed that after the draw against Trinidad this game would be key and stated that they are not yet qualified, so they should not be overconfident.

July 18, 2021 8:59 PM ET

There is motivation

The coach of the El Salvador National Team, Hugo Pérez, affirmed that despite having already qualified, there is no lack of motivation to face Mexico in the last game of the group stage:

"Mexico is one of the best teams in Concacaf, for us the game serves to know where we are; we will face it in a very serious way because we know the rival we have, which is of quality. We have to be well focused, I don't think there is a lack of motivation".

July 18, 2021 8:54 PM ET

Motivational talk

El Salvador knows that if it wants to remain group leader and prevent Mexico and the United States from meeting until the final, it must not lose, as a draw or a win will be enough to remain at the top of Group A.

July 18, 2021 8:49 PM ET

A lot of rivalry

CONCACAF informed early in the morning that the Cotton Bowl in Texas will be 100 percent open and all tickets have been sold, which is why an extraordinary atmosphere between Mexicans and Salvadorans is expected.

July 18, 2021 8:44 PM ET

Start

Mexico and El Salvador define the leader of Group A where the stadium is expected to be at maximum capacity. We begin with coverage of the last game of the group stage for both countries.

July 18, 2021 8:39 PM ET

Going for the win

Gerardo Martino assured that there is no pressure on Mexico to win and assured that if they play the way they have been doing things, they will have a good result.

It is important to remember that Mexico needs to win to snatch the group leadership from El Salvador, a draw would condemn them to second place and a loss combined with a win by Trinidad could even leave them out of the Gold Cup.

July 18, 2021 8:34 PM ET

Excited about Raúl Jiménez

This Saturday, Raúl Jiménez returned to the field for the first time since November and Gerardo Martino could not hide his happiness and indicated that if he is on the right track, he could be considered when the qualifiers for Qatar 2022 begin.

"We are aware of it. He felt good. We are happy for him. We believe that this is the first step to then be able to have him with us. We are very happy because it has been a long time. The injury was very serious and he put a lot of effort into his recovery. We were hoping to have him with us in two months", he commented.

July 18, 2021 8:29 PM ET

Warns of El Salvador

This Saturday at a press conference, Mexico's technical director, Gerardo Martino, assured that they will face the most difficult team in the group and warned that their style of play is very well worked and defined.

"We are going to have a different match to the two previous ones, El Salvador proposes a lot from the goalkeeper, elaborates from the back and exerts high pressure. It will be a game divided in possession, probably with the defensive part not so tight in the position on the field," he said.

July 18, 2021 8:09 PM ET

Key player El Salvador

The talented player in the midfield has a first and last name and it is Darwin Cerén, who has a lot of unbalance and depth, which could cause damage to the Mexican defense at any time.

July 18, 2021 8:04 PM ET

Key player Mexico

Whatever he does, Rogelio Funes Mori will be in the eye of the storm due to his recent naturalization, which has brought both positive and negative criticism. With the absence of Raúl Jiménez and Hirving Lozano, the "Mellizo" is in charge of scoring goals, with two in his first three games in the Tricolor jersey.

"I am happy and grateful to God for this opportunity and for this moment. The work done as a group and individually makes you enjoy it more. I am grateful for that and just thankful that I was able to contribute to the team and to our goal. Now we just hope there will be many more.", he said.

July 18, 2021 7:44 PM ET

At the same time

At the same time, Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago will be facing each other, where the former has no chance of qualifying, while the Caribbean team needs to win and wait for Mexico to lose in order to finish second in the group.

July 18, 2021 7:39 PM ET

Mexico: releasing pressure

After failing to score a goal against Trinidad and coming in for some criticism for having beaten Guatemala's B team by only three goals, Gerardo Martino's team has a good test to show that it is on the rise and that it can take the lead, which is a must for the Aztecs.

July 18, 2021 7:34 PM ET

El Salvador: to leave everything on the pitch

El Salvador plays to kill or die every time it faces Mexico, as games against the "Tricolor" are very special and tough for the Selecta. Regardless of the fact that they have already qualified, each player will give more than one hundred percent on the field.

July 18, 2021 7:29 PM ET

What would be the match?

It should be remembered that both first and second place in this sector will be facing Sector D, which is made up of Panama, Qatar and Honduras, with Grenada also in the group but already eliminated.

July 18, 2021 7:24 PM ET

The leadership will be defined

The two best teams in this group will meet at the end of the group phase in the search for the leadership of Sector A. El Salvador wants to continue its perfect winning streak, but Mexico will be looking for a victory to snatch the top spot and close in the best possible way.

El Salvador has six points and has yet to concede a goal in the championship; while Mexico has four points and a draw is not enough to climb to first place; it tied against Trinidad and Tobago and beat Guatemala 3-0.

July 18, 2021 7:19 PM ET
