Good news for the struggling Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies have activated catcher Carlos Ruiz, who was serving his 25-game amphetamine suspension, reports Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer. In related moves, Philadelphia has designated catcher Humberto Quintero for assignment.

Quintero, 33, arrived to Philadelphia on a minor league deal in late November. In seven games this season, he was hitting a .313/.353/.438 batting line in 21 plate appearances with the Phillies.  For his career he owns a .234/.267/.324 line in 429 games with the Padres ('03-'04), Astros ('05-'11), Royals ('12) and of course Phillies.

Carlos Ruiz posted a .325/.394/.540 batting line with 16 home runs and 68 RBI in 421 plate appearances with the Phillies last year. In seven years in the majors, the 33 year-old owns a .275/.363/.418 line in 733 games with the Phillies ('06-'12).

Erik Kratz will be the back-up catcher for the Phillies as Ruiz will take the starting role.
