The Arizona Diamondbacks' formula for a win on Sunday boiled down to one player, starting pitcher Wade Miley.  Miley dominated the Rockies on both sides of the diamond as the Diamondbacks (2-7) broke their four game losing streak and salvaged a win in the series against the Colorado Rockies (3-4), 5-3 at Coors Field.

Miley (2-1) has dominated the Rockies in his career with a 7-0 record, 4-0 at Coors Field.  Don't tell Miley that Coors Field is a pitcher's worst nightmare.  The Rockies hit into 19 ground ball outs, five of which were double plays.

Miley pitched eight strong innings on 94 pitches, giving up two runs on seven hits, two strikeouts and two walks.

"My mentality against these guys is the same as it against anybody else," Miley said. "They're very aggressive and I just try to throw strikes."

It took until the fourth inning for the Rockies to reach second base against Miley when Michael Cuddyer doubled to center.  The only Rockie to have success against Miley was Wilin Rosario who doubled twice and walked.  Rosario is 8-for-16 against Miley (.500) with a home run and three doubles.

I've got my plan against him and I stay with it," said Rosario.  "I try to see the ball in the zone and swing hard."

The Rockies scoring began with sacrifice flies by Drew Stubbs in the fifth inning and Nolan Arenado in the seventh.  In the ninth against closer Addison Reed, the Rockies had runners on the corners with nobody out.  Rosario grounded into a double play, scoring Carlos Gonzalez from third.

Miley also contributed at the plate.  He set  a career mark by going 3-for-4 with an RBI.  In the fourth innings against Rockies starter Brett Anderson Miley singled on a ground ball to right, scoring Chris Owings.

Anderson (0-2 4.50) pitched six innings, giving up five runs (3 earned) on one strikeout and one walk.  He gave up a home run on a 2-0 slider to Mark Trumbo (5) in the fifth which extended Trumbo's streak to four games.

"I couldn't tell you when it's coming or why it's happening," said Trumbo.  "Maybe the mechanics are just a little more geared to driving the ball right now. It's not something I've consciously thought about too much, but you take what you can get."

The Diamondbacks scored their first two runs of the game off the first of two fielding errors by Gold Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado.  Arenado mishandled a grounder by Paul Goldschmidt which scored AJ Pollock and Aaron Hill.

Notes:

Mark Trumbo's homer in the fifth was the 100th of his career and fifth at Coors Field.  Coors Field had it's first experience with instant replay in the first inning when Rockies Manager Walt Weiss challenged first base umpire Mike Muchlinski's out call on Charlie Blackmon (the call was reversed).  The Diamondbacks have an off day Monday before opening a three game series at San Francisco.  The Rockies open interleague play at home on Monday against the Chicago White Sox.
