The Arizona Diamondbacks lost on a unfortunate throwing error by shortstop Chris Owings with the bases loaded in the twelfth inning, that allowed Matt Holliday to score and give the St. Louis Cardinals a 3-2 win.

The Cardinals also had the bases loaded with one out in the tenth inning but Evan Marshall escaped the jam.

Brandon McCarthy and Michael Wacha both had great six inning outings for their ball clubs. McCarthy allowed just one earned run in the fourth on a two out Allen Craig RBI single. The two out run was the sixth consecutive run scored by St. Louis with two outs in the series.

The game would stay 1-0 until the Diamondbacks scored two in the eighth inning. Eric Chavez pinch hit for Oliver Perez and singled to start the inning. Gerardo Parra homered the next at bat. Things got chippy after the home run when Chris Owings came to the plate to face Carlos Martinez. Martinez threw a heater up and in that forced Owings to twist out of the batters box, which lead to home plate umpire Doug Eddings to warn both dugouts.

The Cardinals didn't wait long to tie the game, as John Jay's RBI sacrifice fly scored Yadier Molina in the bottom half of the eighth against Brad Ziegler.

The D-backs look to salvage a win against the Cardinals in the series on Thursday, as Wade Miley and Lance Lynn face off. Miley is coming off a poor start against the Dodgers while Lynn has pitched great against Arizona in his career.
