For the second straight year, the Arizona Diamondbacks hit a walk off homer to win a Memorial Day game. Last year it was Didi Gregorious against the Texas Rangers, this year it was A.J. Pollock's two run homer to defeat the San Diego Padres 7-5.

The D-backs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Tyson Ross and the Padres. Cliff Pennington hit a RBI single that ricocheted off Chase Headley's glove into left center field that scored Martin Prado. Cody Ross was able to score when Alexi Amarista blatantly ran right past the ball rolling towards him, earning himself a error.

The Padres struck for a four spot in the fifth inning, after Brandon McCarthy held them relatively quiet through the first four. Yonder Alonso led the inning off with a solo homer, that was followed a few batters later with a Everth Cabrera three run homer. Coincidentally or not, the roof was opened as the inning started.

Arizona knocked Ross out of the ballgame in the sixth, as Paul Goldschmidt, Miguel Montero and Martin Prado all had RBI hits in that order to take a 5-4 lead. Tyson Ross pitched five innings, allowing five runs --four earned-- on nine hits and four strikeouts.

San Diego did the same in the seventh inning after pinch hitter Tommy Medica hit a two out double, that lead to Kirk Gibson bringing in Joe Thatcher. Thatcher couldn't keep the tying run on second base, giving up a RBI double to Everth Cabrera. As for McCarthy, he finished the day going 6.2 innings and allowing five earned runs on nine hits.

Both teams face off again Tuesday night in game two of the series, as Wade Miley and Eric Stults will battle for a win to add to their records.
