Bronson Arroyo said it would be hard to keep a straight face pitching against guys he knows so well. Unfortunately for Arroyo, the Cincinnati Reds knew him all too well, knocking him around for nine hits and five earned runs in a 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The big blow occurred in the second inning, as Arroyo allowed a grand slam to Devin Mesoraco. Mesoraco's grand slam was the result of a first pitch hanging curveball. The fifth run came off a Roger Bernadina RBI double in the sixth inning.

The D-backs scored in the first inning on a Paul Goldschmidt RBI groundout that scored A.J. Pollock. Two more runs crossed the plate in the third as Gerardo Parra hit a RBI single and came in to score on a Todd Frazier throwing error that occurred during a Paul Goldschmidt ground ball to third.

Aaron Hill had a RBI single off Mike Leake to make it a 5-4 game. Leake had a solid outing in his homecoming to Arizona, pitching six innings while allowing four runs --three earned-- on six hits.

Devin Mesoraco finished off his huge night with another long home run in the top of the ninth that made it 6-4. Aroldis Chapman recorded save number six on the season. Arizona faithful had their cell phones out to record the 100 mph plus heater, but Chapman mostly stuck with while his slider and changeup.

The D-backs and Reds play game three of the four game series Saturday night, with a pitching matchup of Brandon McCarthy and Johnny Cueto. McCarthy looks to improve on his one start against the Reds in his career, where he allowed seven runs in just three innings pitched.
