The last few days have been extremely busy for the Padres farm system. The trades of Huston Street and Chase Headley have brought five new players into the Padres system. The team has also shuffled around several high draft picks and top prospects. One such player who moved up the ranks recently is 2014 1st Round Pick Trea Turner.

Turner, 21, got off to a slow start in his pro debut with the Eugene Emeralds but has heated up since joining the Fort Wayne Tincaps. On Wednesday night, Turner went 4-for-4 in Fort Wayne's 6-1 loss to Beloit. In nine games with the Tincaps, Turner is hitting .471, with six stolen bases. Turner is showcasing the dynamic skills the Padres envisioned when they drafted him 13th overall last month.

The Tincaps also made a series of roster moves this week, including demoting former supplemental pick Walker Weickel to Eugene. Weickel has struggled mightily in his second season in the Midwest League. The Tincaps Opening Day starter has a 1-8 record, with a 6.32 ERA in 15 starts. He is averaging less than five strikeouts per nine innings and has allowed 94 hits in 72.2 innings. On a positive note, Weickel did not allow an earned run in five innings for the Eugene Emeralds.

In Lake Elsinore, the Storm introduced several new players to the roster. Pitchers Rafael De Paula (acquired for Chase Headley) and Elliot Morris (acquired for Huston Street) were assigned to the California League. Shortstop Jose Rondon (Street deal) became the team's new shortstop as California League All-Star Diego Goris was promoted to Double-A San Antonio. Eliot Morris made his Storm debut a few days ago and allowed just one earned run in his six innings of work. Lake Elsinore also transferred the contract of infielder River Stevens to Eugene.

The Double-A San Antonio Missions received some firepower in the bullpen in the name of R.J. Alvarez. Alvarez was also acquired in the Street deal, has a 0.31 ERA on the year, while averaging nearly 13 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched. He projects as a closer, and should see the ninth inning for the Missions. As this writer mentioned earlier, Diego Goris will see the majority of the playing at shortstop for San Antonio.

At El Paso, the team welcomed several rehabbing big leaguers. Jedd Gyorko, Yonder Alonso, and Everth Cabrera are currently getting at-bats in the Texas panhandle. Gyorko seems to be getting his stroke back, with a .300 average and homer in 20 at-bats. However, the biggest addition to the team might be Rymer Liriano. Liriano hit 14 homers for San Antonio this season and is off to a 6-for-13 start for the Chihuahuas.

As the season continues, the new players brought into the system will be interesting to look. The team may not be done adding young talent to the system, as they are shopping veterans Chris Denorfia and Ian Kennedy.
