The Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4 despite playing without two of their starters, being outfielder Gerardo Parra and utility man Martin Prado. Both players were dealt during the later stages of today's trade deadline.

Josh Collmenter struggled located his pitches Thursday night, but still managed to limit Pittsburgh to three runs in 5 1/3 innings. Russell Martin hit a two run double in the second inning to tally the first runs of the game. Neil Walker hit a solo homer in the sixth inning off Collmenter. Collmenter actually helped himself out by putting the ball in play during his at bat in the fourth inning. His ground ball led to a missed catch by Ike Davis that scored Mark Trumbo and Jordan Pacheco to tie the game.

Jordan Pacheco hit a RBI single in the fifth, that was followed with two sixth inning home runs from the D-backs. Infielder Andy Marte, who was just recalled from Triple-A on Thursday along with Roger Kieschnick to fill the empty roster spots, hit a clutch pinch hit two run home run to give Arizona a 5-3 lead. Aaron Hill added onto the lead with a solo homer of his own.

Andrew McCutchen answered with a RBI single in the seventh, all to be vanquished by Nick Ahmed's solo home run in the bottom of the eighth --the first of his career--.

Vidal Nuno will start Friday's game, still looking for his first win as a D-back. Edinson Volquez will take the mound for Pittsburgh.

Worth Noting:

  • The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired some promising prospects with their two trades on Thursday, while freeing up salary at the same time. Gerardo Parra was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Mitch Haniger and left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda. Martin Prado was dealt to the New York Yankees for catching prospect Peter O'Brien and a player to be named later or cash.
  • With Thurday's win, manager Kirk Gibson earned his 338th career win with the Diamondbacks, making him the most winningest manager in the clubs history.
