After a tough month of June, Jayson Werth turned it around to become a pitcher's nightmare and was voted National League Player of the Month for July.  He batted .337 in 83 at bats while adding six home runs. In addition, Werth led the National League in both RBIs (24) and extra-base hits (17) while showing excellent plate discipline in drawing 14 walks.

This is Werth's second time winning the Player of the Month Award and he remains the only Nationals player to do so in team history. He is now batting .278 with 12 home runs and 61 RBI's. He raised his batting average 15 points throughout the month of July. To win this award, Werth needed to beat out teammate Denard Span as well as Yasiel Puig and Anthony Rizzo.

National's Manager Matt Williams pointed out a slight flaw in Werth's swing that he fixed prior to going on this tear.

"If he gets too crouched he tends to get long with his stride," said Williams.  "So he just made a minor adjustment, he stood a little taller at the plate. It gets him on top of the baseball a little bit more."

The Washington Nationals currently sit atop the NL East standings at 60-50 (.545). With just a three game lead over the Atlanta Braves, the Nationals need Jayson Werth to continue his success at the plate.
