The Arizona Diamondbacks had 12 hits against the flame-throwing Kansas City Royals pitching staff, but still found themselves on the short end of a 4-3 game.

Mike Moustakas was the key player for the Royals, as he drove in all four of their runs during Wednesday's ball game. He hit a two-run homer in the second and a RBI single in the fourth off Josh Collmenter, finishing off with a RBI groundout in the ninth. Josh Collmenter was handed his sixth loss of the season after hurling a quality start, only allowing three hits in his six innings of work.

Yordano Ventura also pitched a quality start, allowing two earned runs in six innings to go along with eight strikeouts. The two runs the D-backs scored on Ventura came in the third inning coming from RBI singles from Aaron Hill and David Peralta.

Mark Trumbo nearly hit a three-run walk off home run in the ninth inning against Greg Holland, but he just missed it and was forced to settle with the sacrifice fly.

Vidal Nuno will attempt to prevent the D-backs from getting swept by Kansas City on Thursday, facing off against Jeremy Guthrie.
