It's September which means major league rosters have expanded for all 30 MLB teams.The San Diego Padres have made several moves related to the roster expansions.

INF/OF Cory Spangenberg (contract purchased from Double-A San Antonio), RHP Leonel Campos (contract purchased from Double-A San Antonio), RHP R.J. Alvarez (contract purchased from Double-A), LHP Robbie Erlin (recalled from Triple-A El Paso), RHP Joe Wieland (recalled from Triple-A El Paso), LHP Frank Garces (recalled from Double-A San Antonio), C Adam Moore (contract purchased from Triple-A El Paso). 

Spangenberg was the Padres 1st round pick in 2011. He has battled concussions throughout his career, including one this season. For Double-A San Antonio, Spangenberg posted a very impressive triple-slash line of .331/.365/.470, with two homers and 22 RBI's. He went 1-for-3 with two RBI's in his big-league debut Monday. 

Campos has split the year with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso. His numbers let a lot to be desired: a 2-7 record with a 6.40 ERA in 82.1 innings between the two levels. He does possess the ability to miss bats, as evidenced by his 11.7 K per nine inning ratio. He has started and relieved in his career. 

Alvarez, a power reliever, was acquired by San Diego in the Huston Street trade in July. Between the two organizations, Alvarez is compiled a 1.28 ERA in 38 games. He is not eligible for the Rule 5 Draft, but the organization believes he can be a part of the bullpen in 2015. He has spent the entire year in Double-A/ 

Erlin started eight games this season for the Padres, before hitting the disabled list with soreness in his elbow. He had an ERA of 4.53 with San Diego. Erlin has started six games in the minors this season, and he has posted an ERA of 5.87. 

Wieland has returned to the big leagues after a long recovery after Tommy John surgery. Wieland hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2012. Wieland has started nine games in the minors, and has a 3.03 ERA in 38.2 innings. 

Garces made his Major League debut in August, after dominating for Double-A San Antonio. Garces threw three shutout innings for the Padres, and finished with a 1.93 ERA in 65.2 innings for the Missions. 

Moore has played 73 games in the majors with the Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals. He has played the entire year for Triple-A El Paso, where he hit .291 in 91 games.

San Diego opened two spots on the 40-man roster when they designated INF Chris Nelson and LHP Troy Patton. The Padres will have 10 days to trade, release or outright the players to the minors. 

Nelson was signed as a minor league costless agent earlier in the year. He played in 27 games for the Padres, and posted a triple-slash line of .233/.296/.274, with seven RBI's. 

Patton was acquired for the Padres when they traded catcher Nick Hundley to the Baltimore Orioles. Patton appeared in eight games for San Diego, and pitched to 2.45 ERA. Patton had been on the DL. 

San Diego also placed 1B Yonder Alonso, OF Carlos Quentin and INF Ryan Jackson on the 60-day DL to open 40-man roster spots.
