Jake Peavy set the tone for the series, tossing 5 2/3 innings and holding down the Nationals enough to survive game one. "Nobody is scared of the moment," said Peavy, "We understand that we might not be, man for man, the favorites." The Giants won 3-2 on Friday.

The Giants definitely came in as the underdogs. After using Bumgarner in the play-in game, the Giants had to use Peavy against Stephen Strasburg, things that in most cases would cause a team to fold. The Giants have something about them in the playoffs.

"We've done it so many times now, it seems to be part of our DNA," said Hunter Pence,"But I think the thing that we know is: What's in the past is in the past, and we've got to move forward and we've got to be ready for the game tomorrow. Because if not, they'll jump all over us."

The Giants got 3 runs, which was enough to get through game 1. They will need to do more than that if they hope to continue winning. On Saturday, Tim Hudson will face off against Jordan Zimmermann for game 2. According to ESPN, right hander Hudson is 18-5 with a 2.35 ERA in his career against Washington. Hunter Pence is 8 for 20 with two homers against Zimmermann.
