The New York Yankees have re-signed Stephen Drew to a one-year contact worth $5 million, with incentives that can bring it to $6-7 million.

Drew batted a career-worst .162/237/.299 last season between the Red Sox and Yankees in 85 games with seven home runs and 26 RBI. The only other time he has hit less the seven home runs was in his debut season, when he only played 59 games. That was also the only season that he hit less than 26 RBI. Last season, Drew also posted a career-worst WAR, at -0.6. 2014 was only the second time in his career when he posted a negative WAR.

In 2015, Drew will likely start at second base, with the Yankees' recent acquisition of Didi Gregorius to play shortstop. With Martin Prado traded to Miami this offseason, there is an empty gap at second base. If Drew under impresses in 2015 as he did in 2014, New York may give rookie Jose Pirela a shot at the starting role at second. Pirela played just seven games last season, but managed to hit a double, two triples, and knock in three runs, with a WAR that is 0.8 higher than Drew's.
