St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn left Sunday afternoon's start in the second inning after feeling discomfort in his left hip. MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports that Lynn's first evaluation showed a strained flexor, and he will receive further evaluation Monday. After Lynn left, the Cardinals came from behind late to win 5-2

Lynn pitched a perfect first inning but after walking the first two in the top of the second, and after his 15th pitch of the inning, he left game upon catcher Yadier Molina, trainer Chris Conroy and manager Mike Matheny's advice. Lynn may likely miss his next scheduled start, but Monday's evaluation should lead to a more-informed decision. Lynn's line for the day was no decision, 1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, and 2 BB.

The Marlins took the lead after Lynn's departure when Ichiro Suzuki grounded home a run, scoring Michael Morse, who drew the first walk from Lynn. They added a second run in the fourth when Morse took Tim Cooney over the left field wall (1). Those two runs were all Miami would score.

With his team down 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Cardinals' right fielder Jason Heyward singled home a run to put the Redbirds on the board.

St. Louis then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of two-run blasts, one each from Tommy Pham (1) and Randal Grichuck (1).

Mike Mayers (W: 1-0, 3.00 ERA) benefited from the Cardinals' four-run rally to earn the victory. He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk. Miguel Socolovich (S: 1) allowed one hit and struck out one in the ninth to close it out.

Adam Conley (L: 0-1, 18.00) allowed all four runs in the seventh, his only inning. Only two of those runs, though, were earned. Grichuk's shot came with two outs after Pete Kozma had reached on an error. Conley allowed one more hit and struck out a man.

The concern for Matheny, though, is the health of his #2 starter. Lynn would move into the Opening Night role against the Chicago Cubs should Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright not make that start. Wainwright is sidelined with an abdominal strain. His return status is undetermined, but Opening Day is a possibility.
