The Detroit Tigers took on the Minnesota Twins at 1:08 PM EST. It was a chilly day at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, but the Tigers' bats and arms were on fire. Detroit defeated Minnesota 11-0.

Anibal Sanchez (W: 1-0, 0.00 ERA) went 6.2 innings and gave up zero runs on three hits and two walks. Sanchez was hot early and struck out six hitters.

He was followed up by Angel Nesbitt, who made his Major League debut. Nesbitt went 0.1 innings, and it took him just one pitch to finish up the seventh inning.

Ian Krol, Al Alburquerque and Joakim Soria combined for two innings of scoreless baseball. Krol had two strikeouts and Alburquerque had one, but he gave up the lone hit between the three relievers.

Ian Kinsler did the most damage, but all of the Tigers were on-point. Kinsler went 2 for 4 with four RBI and two runs scored. He was so dominant because of Alex Avila, Jose Iglesias and Anthony Gose. The eight, nine, and leadoff hitters combined to hit 8 for 11 with three walks. Gose collected three RBI.

"I'm not trying to walk, but at the same time, I'm trying to swing at strikes," Avila said. "A walk is just the result of sometimes not chasing and not swinging at balls."

Meanwhile, Miguel Cabrera was dominant once again. He went 2 for 4 and racked up two RBI. Cabrera is batting .250/.333/.375 on the season.

Ricky Nolasco (L: 0-1, 18.00 ERA) took the hill and got the start for the Twins; he was knocked around early. Nolasco made it through just 3.0 innings and gave up six runs on six hits and four walks. Nolasco recorded just two strikeouts; he got Yoenis Cespedes and Nick Castellanos swinging.

"Leadoff walks are always going to hurt you a little bit," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "They were able to put together some innings and we weren't able to contain them after that. Iglesias got off to a good start; he got some hits, and Gose had a couple big hits, but it starts with both leadoff walks."

Eduardo Nunez went 1 for 1 in a pinch hitting situation, which was much better than the rest of Minnesota. The only Twins to get hits were Nunez, Joe Mauer, Oswaldo Arcia, and Logan Schafer

This is the first time in history that the Tigers started their season with back-to-back shutouts.
