Wednesday afternoon FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported that the Seattle Mariners acquired OF/1B Mark Trumbo from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Trumbo was the main piece in the deal, but the Mariners also received LHP Vidal Nuno while giving up RHP Dom Leone, catcher Wellington Castillo, and Gabby Guerrero and Jack Reinheimer who are the 7th and 17th top prospects respectively in the Mariners organization, according to Baseball America.

Trumbo, 29, this season has hit .259 with nine home runs and 23 RBI. He provides some more power in a Mariners lineup that is really lacking power outside of Nelson Cruz. This move helps Seattle stretch the order a bit as now Trumbo will be able to expand the 3-4-5 combo of Cano, Cruz, and Seager into a little bit more than just those three. He can play either corner outfield spot, first base, and can DH, an option not available to him in Arizona.

As for Arizona, they are acquiring some good pieces from the Mariners. Dom Leone is a solid bullpen arm who has struggled at times this season, but was good for the Mariners in 2014. Wellington Castillo was just acquired from the Cubs last week and spent just about a week in Seattle. The two prospects given up are interesting because this is really the first time that Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik has dealt prospects for Major League ready talent. You might recognize the name Guerrero as he is the nephew of former power hitting major leaguer, Vladamir Guerrero.

The other piece that the Seattle received was Vidal Nuno who has been solid for the Diamondbacks this year. The lefty has posted 1.88 ERA in 14.1 IP and has the potential to start, but will probably begin his Seattle career in the bullpen.

All in all, this is a good trade for both sides.

The Diamondbacks really aren't going too many places in 2015 and they can now get more playing time for young guns Yasmany Tomas and Jake Lamb who are ready to break out. They also save a good chunk of money as Trumbo is owed $6.9 million this season and $10 million next year.

As for Seattle, they were in need of another bat as they lost their fifth straight game at the hands of the Yankees on Wednesday afternoon and need some answers quickly if they think they can compete this year even though they have a record of 24-29. Trumbo can drive in runs and for a team that hasn't scored more than three runs since last Tuesday, May 26th, something needed to happen.
