We all expected a fantastic pitching matchup Wednesday night in Seattle when the San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Mariners sent their aces to the hill at Safeco Field. Felix Hernandez and Madison Bumgarner sure didn't disappoint on this night and gave us all what we expected.

After a brutal outing in Houston where he lasted only 0.1 innings, Hernandez bounced back like usual and went eight shutout innings giving up just four hits and striking out five while walking two. The Giants didn't get a runner past second base all night and Felix had the King's Court loving every moment of his performance. He earned his tenth win for the seventh straight year.

Felix did his part, but with the Mariners offense, you just never know especially with the reigning World Series MVP on the other side.

MadBum, as they like to call him, turned in another fantastic performance. He went eight innings giving up two runs on four hits while striking out nine Mariners and walking just one. MadBum carried a perfect game into the fifth and was sailing along until Mark Trumbo, who ended the ballgame 1-for-3, recorded the first hit for Seattle with one out in the fifth. He thought he pitched one of his best games all season, as he said after the game.

"That's as good as I've felt all year," Bumgarner said. "It was one of those things where everything was all there."

It was in the sixth when the Mariners cracked the scoreboard. Mike Zunino started the rally with a two-strike single to left which was followed by an RBI triple by Austin Jackson to make it 1-0. Right after Jackson, Robinson Cano wanted to join in on the action and ripped an RBI double down the right field line that scored Jackson from third and put the Mariners up 2-0. That was all they needed with their King sailing along on the mound.

The Giants had their best opportunity off of Felix in the second inning as they had runners on first and second, but that threat quickly subsided. Giants third baseman Matt Duffy was the lone player on either side to record a multi-hit game as he finished 2-for-4.

Seattle's closer-by-committee continued as lefty Charlie Furbush got the first two outs of ninth versus two lefties and then Carson Smith shut the door as he got the aforementioned Duffy to end the ballgame and record his third save of the season.

This pitching matchup between two of the best pitchers in baseball sure didn't disappoint, and it gave the fans in Seattle quite a show to feast their eyes on. It isn't every day you get to see two pitchers of this caliber go head to head like Wednesday night. In Bumgarner's case, sometimes you just have to tip your cap when it is a matchup of this caliber even though you know you gave your team a good chance to win the ballgame.

The four game series concludes in Seattle Thursday when the Mariners send lefty Mike Montgomery to the hill to face off against Ryan Vogelsong for the Giants. The Mariners are looking for the series win as they lead it two games to one.
