In front of 42,000 fans at AT&T Park, San Francisco Giants ace left-hander Madison Bumgarner struke out Brandon Barnes in the top of the second inning, his 1,000th strike out victim.

Bumgarner, who improved to 8-4 on the year, surrendered five hits, two following the first inning, through 7.2 innings. Bumgarner would give up two earned runs, both coming in the first off a two run shot by Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado, and strike out eight. Bumgarner also helped his own cause, adding a solo home run in the seventh inning, his second of the year.

Buster Posey drove in the first three Giant runs on the afternoon and finished 2-for-4. Giant third baseman Matt Duffy added an RBI to the offensive effort and finished a single short of hitting for the cycle. Duffy and shortstop Brandon Crawford both hit solo home runs in the sixth inning to extend the Giants lead to 5-2.

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick (3-10) gave up five earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Kendrick gave up two home runs and took the loss.

Nolan Arenado continued his red hot pace in the month of June going 2-for-4 with two big flys and adding three runs-batted-in. Arenado, who hit his 23rd and 24th home runs of the season on Sunday, has homered in seven of his last eight games. Furthermore, Arenado extended his hitting streak to 15 games and now has 12 games in a row with at least one hit and one run scored, which is a franchise record. The rising star has also recently moved up to fourth in the All-Star game voting for third baseman.

The Colorado Rockies continue their California road trip against the Oakland Athletics starting June 29th. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05 EST.

The San Francisco Giants travel to face the Giancarlo-less Miami Marlins on June 29th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 EST.
