Although they won the game, the Detroit Tigers lost two other things on Friday night against the Toronto Blue Jays. During the 8-6 victory, they lost a no-hitter carried into the eighth inning by starter Anibal Sanchez. Detroit also lost Miguel Cabrera in the fourth inning due to a left calf strain. The injury is serious, so Cabrera may not be able to avoid a disabled list stint.

"I'm not optimistic at all," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "When Miggy says he can't play, it is serious, because Miggy plays through everything."

The two-time American League MVP is expected to hit the disabled list and rejoin the team after the All-Star break. He was heading to second on a hit-and-run with designated hitter Victor Martinez at the plate.

"I can't sit here and say we'll be fine, because he's the best hitter in baseball, at least in my eyes," Tigers right fielder J.D. Martinez said. "But if you look at our lineup, we've still got a lot of weapons."

Miggy was examined with an MRI, which showed no injury to his Achilles tendon, which is the good news.

Meanwhile, Sanchez was carrying a no-hitter with one out in the eigth inning. It was broken up by former Tigers teammate Ezequiel Carrera with a single to left.

"I was trying to get a double play, but he fought the whole at-bat," Sanchez said. "I got ahead in the count, but he put a good swing on a changeup away."

With an 8-0 lead, Sanchez and the bullpen fell apart. The starter allowed four runs on three hits and three walks over 117 pitches. However, he eventually got the win and moved to 7-7 with a 4.65 ERA.

Josh Donaldson singled to center and Carrera, along with former Tigers prospect Devon Travis, scored.

Alex Wilson came in and replaced the tired Sanchez. Wilson gave up two runs on two hits and walk to make it an 8-6 game.

The runs came off the bat of Dioner Navarro, who doubled deep to right center, scoring Ryan Goins, Donaldson, and Jose Bautista

"That's the mentality of this team," Navarro said. "We can score a bunch of runs in the blink of an eye, but it is tough to dig yourself out of that hole."

However, just when everything seemed as if it would slip, Bruce Rondon held his ground and got the out to finish the eighth inning.

Joakim Soria struck out two in the ninth inning to record his 18th save in 20 chances. His ERA was improved to 2.48.

"We won the game, and that makes it a good day," Sanchez said. "That's all that counts."

Drew Hutchison went just 4.2 innings for Toronto, giving up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks against Detroit.

Cabrera, who left in the fourth, got the party started in the first inning, giving Detroit a 1-0 lead on a bloop single to right, scoring Yoenis Cespedes

In the fifth and seventh, J.D. Martinez did his work. The hot-hitting left fielder doubled to deep right, scoring Victor Martinez. In the seventh, he singled to left to score Andrew Romine and give the Tigers a 8-0 lead.

J.D. Martinez is now hitting .284/.336/.547 with 21 home runs and 53 RBI during the first half of the 2015 season with Detroit. Hopefully, he can continue his push and provide some relief with Cabrera out of the lineup.

Alex Avila returned to the lineup and went 0 for 2 with two walks. He has a .194 batting average during 23 games played. He has been sidelined since May 8 with a knee injury, but he has made an early return due to intense physical therapy.
