DENVER—The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim completed the two game sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night by a score of 3-2.

Angels second baseman Johnny Giavotella delivered the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth inning off of Rockies reliever John Axford (1-2). Giavotella, who was 0-for-3 with a walk, bounced a 2-2 curveball past a diving Troy Tulowitzki and into left field to score Taylor Featherston.

Following a 2:07 rain delay, Mike Trout would open the game up for the Halo’s with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Trout, who’s home run traveled 465 feet deep into the Colorado night, finished the game 2-for-3 with two home runs, two RBI’s and two runs scored.

Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker tossed 5.2 innings before handing the game over to the Angels bullpen. He surrendered two runs on nine hits, recorded two strike outs, and finished with a no decision.

The Colorado Rockies’ offensive woes hit a ceiling on Wednesday night. At the dish, Colorado hitters were a combined 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and left 13 men on base. One of those included D.J. LeMahieu who was left stranded at second base in the bottom of the ninth when Ben Paulsen grounded out to end the game.

The Rockies did have an offensive bright spot. Troy Tulowitzki extended his Major League leading hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the first inning. Tulowitzki, who is in the final five for All-Star voting, finished 1-for-5 with a strikeout.

Rockies starting pitcher Chris Rusin threw six strong innings for the purple pinstripes. Rusin surrendered two runs on five hits, two of those being home runs by Mike Trout, and received the no decision.

The Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim head west to take on AL West rival Seattle Mariners. Seattle will send ace Felix Hernandez (10-5) to the hill to deal against Angels starter Garrett Richards (9-5). First pitch is slated for Thursday, July 7th at 10:10 p.m. EST. The game can be seen on ROOT Sports and Fox Sports West.

The Colorado Rockies open up a four-game home stand against the Atlanta Braves. Colorado will send Kyle Kendrick (3-10) to the hill against Braves starter Alex Wood (6-5). First pitch is slated for Thursday, July 7 at 8:40 p.m. EST. The game can be seen on ROOT Sports and SPSO.
