Day and Night games are one of the more exciting things that baseball teams can do compared to other sports. Football, basketball, and hockey all play for about 3 hours or less like baseball, but none of them have doubleheaders the way that baseball does. After the Chicago White Sox lost 4-2 in the early portion of the doubleheader, it was going to be interesting to see just how they would perform in the second game.

Well, the Kansas City Royals got off to a good start when Alcides Escobar was able to nail a single off of John Danks. But Danks was able to shut down the next three batters as he was off to an excellent start on what would be a wonderful way to start the second half of the season for him.

Edinson Volquez made it into the bottom of the second before giving up his first hit of the game, but unfortunately for the Royals it was a triple to Avisail Garcia. Tyler Flowers came up from the batter's box and was able to hit the RBI single to give the White Sox an early 1-0 lead.

Escobar tried to get some things going in the top of the third inning as he walked to get on base and then advanced into scoring position with two outs on a wild pitch by John Danks. Lorenzo Cain would fly out to centerfield though to end the chance to tie it up and the White Sox maintained their one run edge.

Danks and Volquez just kept going back and forth and back and forth for many of the next few innings before the bottom of the sixth inning. Melky Cabrera hurt Volquez when he led off the inning with a double. He then was able to advance to third when Jose Abreu lined out to centerfield. Then with two outs and a chance to keep the deficit from getting worse, Edinson Volquez threw a wild pitch to Garcia and Cabrera came home easily to score a second run for the White Sox.

John Danks came back on the mound for the top of the seventh before giving up a walk to Alex Rios. He was then pulled for reliever Jake Petricka. Danks finished with 96 pitches to go for 6 innings with no earned runs and gave up 4 walks, 4 hits, and struck out 4 as well. Petricka would get Paulo Orlando to ground out before he was pulled for Zach Duke. Duke struck out one as he didn't let any base runners get on as he recorded five outs of his own to give the ball to their closer, David Robertson.

Robertson did the job to get his 20th save of the year. He struck out both Salvador Perez and Rios sandwiched around a line out for Omar Infante. Danks goes to 5-8 on the season with the win while Volquez falls to 8-5.

The Kansas City Royals (53-35) will try to maintain their lead in the AL Central on Saturday as they put Jeremy Guthrie (7-5, 5.36 ERA) on the mound to face Jose Quintana (4-9, 3.69 ERA) of the Chicago White Sox (42-46). The White Sox currently sit in fourth place in the AL Central, a half game ahead of the Cleveland Indians. First pitch in this AL Central matchup is slated for 2:10 PM ET.
