The Boston Red Sox entered the All-Star break wondering whether they would become buyers or sellers at the upcoming trade deadline.

After this weekend, the verdict is crystal clear.

Incumbent ace Eduardo Rodriguez (L, 5-3) yielded seven earned runs on six hits in just 1.2 innings for Boston, who dropped their third consecutive ballgame to the Los Angeles Angels, 11-1, while mustering a single run for the first time since July 12th.

Designated hitter Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with a solo shot and two runs scored, shortstop Erick Aybar went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and right fielder Kole Calhoun smacked a two-run home run for Los Angeles. The Angels garnered their 14th victory in 17 games while increasing their lead over Houston in the AL West to 1.5 games.

Hector Santiago (W, 7-4) yielded just one run in five innings despite allowing eight hits to capture the win for the Angels, striking out a whopping 10 Red Sox batters. Relievers Mike Morin and Cesar Ramos relinquished just two Boston basrunners in four innings of relief, shutting down an impotent Red Sox offense which has amounted to just one run over three games post All-Star break.

After escaping a jam in the first inning by forcing a double play ball, Rodriguez was massacred by the Angels in the second, tagged for seven runs. Aybar began the game-defining stanza with a single, and was moved to second on a one-out walk by first baseman C.J. Cron.

Then, the roof collapsed on the Red Sox. Catcher Chris Iannetta knocked an RBI single to left to break the scoreless tie, and left fielder Daniel Robertson smacked a double to left, scoring Cron. Subsequently, second baseman Johnny Giavotella recorded a two-RBI single to center, followed by a two-run home run by Calhoun which pushed the Los Angeles advantage to an insurmountable 6-0.

The Angels were not finished, however, as Pujols hammered a two-out offering from Rodriguez over the wall in left-center for a solo homer, ending the rookie's night on the mound having pushed their lead to seven runs.

The Red Sox were able to capture a run in the top of the fourth inning, as first baseman Mike Napoli singled home designated hitter David Ortiz with one out, however Los Angeles continued to pile on to their lead in the bottom half of the stanza.

Facing reliever Noe Ramirez, Calhoun walked with one out and was advanced to third on a two-out throwing error by Boston third baseman Pablo Sandoval. Aybar then singled to right, bringing home Calhoun, a base hit followed up by a definitive three-run home run to center by third baseman David Freese, increasing the Angels lead to 11-1.

Los Angeles will attempt to wrap up a four-game sweep of Boston at 10:05 p.m. ET, as Andrew Heaney (3-0, 1.32 ERA) takes on knuckleballer Steven Wright (3-2, 4.15 ERA).
