The Seattle Mariners came into Wednesday afternoon's game looking to sweep away the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, and looking to win their fourth-straight ballgame. Things ultimately didn't go their way, as the Rockies pulled out a 7-5 walk-off win in 11 innings to avoid the sweep.

Seattle received a great outing from their starter Taijuan Walker who has continued to shine on the hill for the Mariners. Wednesday he went 7.1 innings giving up just three runs on five hits, while striking out five and walking three. He even helped his own cause with an RBI double in the fourth inning.

The only blemish to Walker's outing was on one swing off the bat of Carlos Gonzalez, who blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to, at the time, even the ballgame at three runs apiece.

Walker's RBI double in the fourth capped a three-run top of the fourth, as Robinson Cano and Austin Jackson also checked in with RBI singles to get the Mariners going in this one off of Rockies starter Chris Rusin.

Rusin's pitch count got in the way for him at 96 pitches as he lasted five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking three.

It wasn't until the seventh inning when one team took control of this ballgame, at least for the moment, and that team was the Mariners. In the top of the seventh off of Rockies reliever John Axford, Franklin Gutierrez found his pitch and shot it over the fence in left for a two-run home run to give the Mariners a 5-3 lead, and it looked for the moment that they were on their way to a sweep. The Rockies, however, had other plans.

At Coors Field, offense is seemingly easier to come by and the Rockies showed us that that theory is alive and well.

In the bottom of the ninth, Joe Beimel came on to get the first out against the lefty Gonzalez and succeeded in doing so. Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon likes to use the matchup advantage with his bullpen so he brought in Fernando Rodney to get the final two outs.

In the end, that plan didn't work out as he walked DJ LeMahieu,  gave up an RBI double to Ben Paulsen, and then a game-tying RBI single to Kyle Parker. Just like that, in three batters, it was a tie ballgame and it was the same Fernando Rodney we have seen seemingly all season long. They did get out of the inning after McClendon brought in lefty Rob Rasmussen.

The Mariners did, however, have a chance to score a run or two as they led off the 10th with two walks and a sacrifice bunt by Seth Smith, which set up a second and third situation with just one out and the top of the order coming up. Seattle, however, failed to score a run after a tough strike three call on rookie Ketel Marte and a flyout by Kyle Seager.

Then in the 11th, Mayckol Guaipe gave up a walk-off two run home run to Michael McKenry with two outs to salvage one win in the three-game series for Colorado.

Another note for the Mariners, Nelson Cruz extended his hit streak to 16 games with two hits in the ballgame. Franklin Gutierrez and Ben Paulsen both had three hits for their respective teams in the ballgame as well.

The Rockies and Mariners both have an off day Thursday before Colorado heads east to face the Washington Nationals, while the Mariners head home to face division foe Texas Rangers. Both of those series' start Friday.
