The Kansas City Royals have re-signed free agent outfielder Alex Gordon, according to Jeffery Flanagan of MLB.com. Flanagan explains the official announcement could come as soon as Wednesday, while Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the deal is worth $72 million across four years.

Heyman mentions that Gordon was looking for $20 million per year, so the outfielder takes a small cut to stay in Kansas City. The deal does not include an opt-out clause and there is not any no-trade provision included in the contract.

"I am so stoked," Danny Duffy, a left-handed pitcher for the Royals said. "So awesome, dude. I was worried it would not happen, but knowing Gordo I bet there are about a gazillion fans in the Midwest pretty happy right now."

Gordon played in 109 games last season with the Royals and hit .271 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI. He played very well for having to fight through a few injuries in 2015. He has added 134 home runs and 523 RBI across his nine-year MLB career, all in Kansas City. The outfielder hit .241 with two homers in the postseason, which ended in a 2015 World Series victory over the New York Mets. The deal for Gordon is the largest in franchise history, which beat out the $55 million given to Mike Sweeny and Gil Meche

The 31-year-old left-handed hitter declined his $12.5 million player option for 2016 after the conclusion of the World Series win over the Mets. He will get $18 million per year, which is a huge steal for the defending champs to bring him back home. Gordon will get $12 million in 2016, $16 million in 2017, $20 million in 2018, $20 million in 2019 and a mutual option for 2020, which has a $4 million buyout. If traded, Gordon's option will be voided and converts to $4 trade bonus.

In the outfield, Kansas City will go with Jarrod Dyson, Lorenzo Cain and Gordon to start the season. They also have Paulo Orlando to help out as a backup if needed. Orlando has hit .249 with seven homers and 27 RBI in his rookie season with the Royals.

Kansas City has Ian Kennedy, Wei-Yin Chen and Yovanni Gallardo on their radar, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Look for first baseman Chirs Davis, outfielders Justin Upton, Yoenis Cespedes and Dexter Fowler, along with Chen to get off the market sooner than later now that Gordon has signed with a team.
