The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to terms on a one-year, $2.5 million deal with free agent first baseman Chris Carter, as according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports on Wednesday evening.

As Rosenthal notes, the 29 year old will have the chance to earn another $500K with incentives which adds up to $3 million total. The contract also includes performance bonuses based on games played and plate appearances.

As noted by MLBTradeRumors, the agreement reunites Carter with general manager David Stearns who served as assistant GM in the Houston Astros front office before moving to Milwaukee back in September.

In a statement from Stearns regarding the transaction, he said, "We are pleased to be able to add Chris to our organization. Over the past three seasons, Chris has proven to be one of the most consistent power threats in the game. We believe that his skills and experiences will complement our team well and provide additional production to our lineup.”

Carter has spent the past three seasons in Houston after being traded by the Oakland Athletics back in 2013. Over that time, he has managed to hit with a combined batting line of .218/.312/.459 with 90 home runs while spending the majority of his time at first base and designated hitter before being non-tendered on December 2.

Over the course of the 2015 season, Carter hit .199/.307/.427 alongside 24 home runs and 64 RBI's in 460 plate appearances. He managed to play in 129 games over that span.

With Adam Lind no longer in the mix after being traded to the Seattle Mariners, Carter will presumably take over the club's everyday duties as he becomes the primary fit.

At the time of which Carter was non-tendered, he had been deemed eligible for arbitration for the second time. That means that the Brewers can hold onto him for the next three seasons, should they choose to do so, based on performance.
