Unlike most of the teams participating in the Serie del Caribe, Panama attends the tournament as a guest. Even so, the Central American country has already hosted some editions and has two titles to its credit (Carta Vieja Yankees in 1950 and Toros de Herrera in 2019).

This year, the Federales de Chiriqui want to continue surprising the baseball world and bring Panama its third Serie del Caribe championship.

Since the Caribbean Series began to be played, nine representatives of the Aztec country have won the competition.

The Tomateros de Culiacán looked very good in their debut in the 2021 Serie del Caribe, when they defeated Colombia 10 - 2. However, consecutive losses to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico have the Mexicans in an uncomfortable position, and they will be looking for a .500 record against the Federales de Chiriqui.

After starting the Serie del Caribe with two consecutive victories, the Federales de Chiriqui were unable to overcome the Aguilas Cibaenas of the Dominican Republic, who defeated them 11 - 6. Now, the Panamanian team is looking to get back to winning ways, and will have to do so against the Tomateros, who are in the doldrums.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the champions of the 2019 - 2020 season of the Panama Professional Baseball League, the Astronautas de Chiriqui, decided not to participate in the 2020 - 2021 campaign. Said season ended up being cancelled, but in view of the Astronautas' refusal to participate, the Panamanian Baseball Federation opted to put together a national team to represent the country in the Caribbean Series. This team was named after the last runner-up of the League: Federales de Chiriqui.

After a long and very competitive series, Tomateros de Culiacan defeated Naranjeros de Hermosillo in seven games, just a few hours before the start of Serie del Caribe.

The 'guindas' were crowned two-time champions of the Mexican Pacific League and earned the right to represent their country in this great tournament.

After three rounds of Serie del Caribe, Mexico has a 1 - 2 mark, so it needs a victory to avoid putting its ticket to the semifinals in jeopardy.

On the other side, Panama, with a 2 - 1 record, is one win away from securing its playoffs spot, and tonight it could do so by facing the home team.
