Zach Plesac vs NY Yankees

Zach Plesac is 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA in two career starts against the New York Yankees. Both starts were in the 2019 season, and he last faced them on August 17 of that year, a game where he allowed five runs, four of them earned, and six hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Plesac last pitched Saturday and allowed three runs on four hits in six innings. He thus far is 6-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 11 starts since the All-Star break, and will be the series opener for the Cleveland Indians tonight.

Corey Kluber, an old acquaintance

Cleveland will face a familiar foe on Friday when Corey Kluber (4-3, 4.02 ERA) makes his fourth start on the mound since not playing for three months with a serious right shoulder injury.

The veteran Pitcher went 98-58 with a 3.16 ERA in his nine seasons with the Cleveland Indians and won the AL Cy Young Award in 2014 and 2017.

Kluber has gone undecided since his return to the diamond. He has an 8.49 ERA and received four runs and five hits in four innings in an 8-7 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday in the Subway Series.

For a miracle

The Cleveland Indians arrives 71-73 this afternoon and just won two of three games against the Minnesota Twins. The Indians scored 18 times after being outscored 24-4 last weekend against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Indians will look to win back-to-back tonight for the first time in more than two weeks after taking a 12-3 win last Wednesday, where Cleveland posted 14 hits while Jose Ramirez, Franmil Reyes and Myles Straw produced three-hit games. While Reyes, Oscar Mercado and Bobby Bradley homered, and the Indians went 5 of 10 with runners in scoring position.
The team will have to win tonight and its next games if it is to continue in the wild card fight. Then wait for a miracle, so that the combinations are given that allow them to advance to the playoffs.

Complicated picture

The New York Yankees are 82-65, a half game behind the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays in the AL wild-card race.

New York must win tonight and hope the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins can beat Boston and Toronto this weekend.

The Yankees are facing this difficult landscape due to their losing streak since winning 13 straight games in August. At the time they had a three-game lead in the AL wild-card race, and since then, they are 6-13, with the last loss coming last night when they were one strike away from leaving Baltimore with a sweep of three games. Certainly a very painful defeat.

Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians are coming off a string of victories over the Minnesota Twins, including a 12-3 win in Wednesday's final, but are still under .500 on the year at 71-73, a long way from the fight for the playoffs although they still have a mathematical chance of qualifying.

These teams met in late April, with New York Yankees winning three of four games in Cleveland.

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees will look to gain ground in the fight for the American League wild cards when they begin a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians tonight in the Bronx.

New York got a series win over the Baltimore Orioles but lost a tough one in Thursday's series finale by a score of 3-2 as a heavy favorite, and is now 0.5 games out of a spot in the playoffs with 82-65.

Zach Plesac RHP

Last Saturday Zach Plesac allowed three runs, two of them earned, with four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings, taking the loss against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The young right-hander has a 4.45 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 88:29 K: BB in 125.1 innings this season. In each of the last four starts he has managed to limit his opponents to three runs or less, reflecting an acceptable performance.

For the third time this season, the Cleveland Indians offense had zero hits in one of Plesac's starts, and it is noteworthy that he bounced back after two tough first innings to get off to a good start despite the loss.
He was confirmed to make his next road start against the New York Yankees this Friday afternoon.

Corey Kluber RHP

Corey Kluber has yet to complete at least five innings since returning to the Bronx Bombers' rotation on August 30.
The 35-year-old veteran right-hander allowed four runs and five hits, struck out six and walked two, to go without a decision against the New York Mets on Saturday night in the Subway Series.
Kluber came out on the mound with a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning, but walked Baez to open the inning on six pitches and later on, Báez himself ended up scoring again with a double for Kevin Pillar. He allowed two more runs in that inning and after four innings pitched, he was removed from the game by the New York Yankees manager.
He will bring his wealth of experience and a solid 4.02 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP to this start of the series at home against the Cleveland Indians.

This is how the Indians arrive

The Cleveland Indians have been mediocre all season in terms of offensive production. They rank in the top five in batting average and on-base percentage, while on the other hand they have thrown 180 long balls in 143 games.

Unfortunately, the Tribe are somewhat behind in the wild-card race with only 20 games remaining, behind the Yankees, Athletics, Mariners and Angels, so they need to win virtually every game and wait for combinations.

They have lost seven of their last 10 games.

This is how the NY Yankees arrive

The New York Yankees have been reeling at a very bad time, allowing the Toronto Blue Jays to get fully into the fight for the American League Wild Card.

The Bronx Bombers have lost nine of their last twelve games and will need to get back on track in this series against the Indians.

Battle of right pitchers on the mound

The Cleveland Indians leave home to play the first game of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees this Friday night.
The Indians are slated to send right-hander Zach Plesac to the mound in what will be his fifth start of the season, as the Yankees respond by sending veteran right-hander Corey Kluber.
