He was victorious in his previous start despite allowing four runs and six hits with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings, in the Houston Astros' 10-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sept. 21.

Urquidy had one of his best starts of the season precisely against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 1, with seven scoreless innings with four hits, one walk and five strikeouts in his biggest victory with the Astros 3-1. That was the first appearance of his career against Tampa Bay.

Rays News

Immediately after securing their seventh place in the postseason in club history and their third in a row, the Tampa Bay Rays have one goal left to meet during the final week of the regular season.

With their fourth AL East title secured, including their second in a row, the Rays will conclude the regular season having held sole possession of first place in the AL East for 66 consecutive days, the longest stretch in history. of the club.

All that's left for the 97-59 Rays is to secure home advantage in the American League playoffs, and a win over the Houston Astros tonight will allow Tampa Bay to reach that goal.

The Rays, who have won seven of their last 10, will face the Astros in Houston in a three-game series starting today.

September 28, 2021 7:41 PM ET

Astros News

Temperature controls have marked the second half of the season for the Astros, whose inability to maintain momentum for an extended period will carry over to their last home stay. Since winning 12 of 16 games to move a 30-game season record above .500 on Sept. 22, the Astros have lost four straight games to stop their bid for a fourth American League West pennant in five seasons. .

The Astros were swept by the Athletics in Oakland over the weekend, suffering back-to-back losses to keep the Athletics and Seattle Mariners ain the fight for the division crown. With a magic number of two wins to clinch the division, the Astros are unlikely to falter to that point. Still, the Astros are just 27-24 since Aug. 1 and have struggled to keep up.

Michael Wacha RHP

Michael Wacha allowed one run on three hits over three innings of work in relief in his last appearance last weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Wacha was called upon in the sixth, with the Rays seemingly reducing his role in the rotation and using him in long relief. The 30-year-old carries a 5.49 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, with 113 strikeouts over 114 innings into this road matchup against a deadly Houston Astros roster.

September 28, 2021 7:11 PM ET

José Urquidy RHP

José Urquidy allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings on Tuesday in a win over the Angels. Urquidy served up six hits, including a solo shot to Jack Mayfield in the second inning and a three-run dinger to Phil Gosselin in the sixth inning. He notched three strikeouts and didn't hand out a free pass.

The Mexican 26-year-old righty has recorded a respectable 4.34 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 15/4 K/BB ratio across 18 2/3 innings over four starts since returning from the injured list on September 3.

He will toe the rubber in his last start of the regular season against the Rays on Tuesday.

September 28, 2021 7:06 PM ET

Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have already clinched the AL East title with one week to play in the regular season. They were just beefing up their playoff rotation at this key moment before the playoffs.

The most important indicator in this game is how far Wacha goes. Manager Kevin Cash believes he will continue to use the veteran right-hander in low-leverage, extended relief situations. Although he has a 5.49 ERA, he has pitched well enough to earn himself a spot on the playoff list.

September 28, 2021 7:01 PM ET

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros have yet to clinch the American League West, but hold a commanding five-game lead over the Seattle Mariners with a handful of games remaining.

Either way, Houston’s incredible season will be capped off with a playoff appearance whether it’s via the division route or wild-card.

They will be a dangerous team to handle in October, with their unique mix of power bats and starting pitching.

September 28, 2021 6:56 PM ET

The match will be played at the Minute Maid Park

Minute Maid Park, formerly called The Ballpark at Union Station, Enron Field and Astros Field, is a retractable roof ballpark in downtown Houston, Texas, United States,
It was opened in 2000 as the home stadium of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball.
