Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrero were selected to be part of the All-Star Game rosters, they are expected to appear as pinch hitters in front of the fans. Albert Pujols announced that this will be his last season in the MLB, while Miguel Cabrera mentioned that he will retire next season, so the league announced that they will be part of the event to honor his great career.

The Los Angeles Angels pitcher, designated hitter and outfielder is the player to watch on the American League roster. Ohtani was named the most valuable player in this league, after averaging 0.258 batting, 19 home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 0.834 On-Base Plus Slugging (OPS) average. The Japanese was named designated hitter and pitcher for the American League for the second consecutive year, he is the first player in history to do so. In the last All-Star Game, Shohei was the game-winning pitcher.
