The Miami Marlins have acquired IF Martin Prado and RHP David Phelps from the New York Yankees in exchange for RHP Nathan Eovaldi, 1B Garrett Jones, and prospect RHP Domingo German.

Prado will act as a utility-man for the Marlins. Since 2012, he has seen time at every position except pitcher and catcher. Last season, the majority of his games came at third base, followed by second. In 2015, he will likely play the majority of his games at third base, platooning with Casey McGehee. The game he does not play at third will likely come at shortstop, giving Adeiny Hechavarria some days off. He has been very consistent since 2009, playing at least 129 games each season since then with double digit home runs and a career batting average of .291.

As there are talks of McGehee being traded to the Giants, it appears that Prado will take over as the Marlins' primary third baseman.

David Phelps started off as a relief pitcher last season, but joined the rotation after the Yankees' starting pitchers became injured. He posted a 4.38 ERA in 32 games last season, 17 of which came as starts. He will likely join Miami's bullpen at the beginning of 2015, as there are seven candidates for the starting rotation.

Nathan Eovaldi posted a 6-14 record last season in 33 starts with a 4.37 ERA. He pitched 199 2/3 innings, 80 1/3 innings more than he had previously pitched in a season. He will be the Yankees' #4 starter behind Michael Pineda in 2015.

Garrett Jones played well last season, hitting 15 home runs and 53 RBI in 146 games last season. He will platoon with Mark Teixera at first base next season, and will take over for him when he is gone.

Baseball American recently named Garrett Jones as Miami's sixth best prospect. He posted a 2.48 ERA in 25 starts last season at Single-A for Miami.
