The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with free agent right-hander Tyler Clippard, as according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports on Monday evening.

It is said that the 30-year-old will receive a total of $12.25 million over the lifetime of his contract, which includes a $4M signing bonus. The club has since confirmed the transaction.

Looking at what Clippard will receive per year, he is set to earn $4.1MM in 2016 while he will be handed $4.15 the following year.

In order to clear a spot for Clippard on the 40-man roster, LHP Will Laconte has been designated for assignment.

Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reported earlier in the day that GM Dave Stewart said the two sides had talked concepts and were hopeful of getting something done as final numbers were being worked out amidst the news conference. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN followed that up by saying things look "promising" as a deal was being wrapped up.

Clippard joins a bullpen alongside players like Brad Ziegler, Randall DelgadoDaniel HudsonAndrew Chafin and Josh Collmenter. He will likely be fitted into the back of the D-Backs bullpen where he has had comfort in the past.

As noted by Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, Clippard will be pitching out of a setup role alongside Hudson, which will be just ahead of Ziegler.

For the moment being, Chafin is the only left-hander in the mix. It is entirely possible that another addition is made with Stewart having hinted at the possibility. Should it be an internal move, it would be either Matt Reynolds or Wesley Wright that could gain access to the final spot based on their performances throughout the spring.

Clippard spent the 2015 season with the the Oakland Athletics following a trade that sent him from the New York Mets in exchange for minor-league pitcher Casey Meisner back in June. Over that time period, he pitched with an ERA of 2.79 alongside a 1-3 record in 38.2 innings pitched.

For his career, Clippard has saved 53 games in 124 attempts. The Excel Sports Management client is a former 9th round draft pick (27th overall) of the New York Yankees back in the 2003 amateur draft. He signed with the team in June of that season and made his MLB debut four years later.

There has been some concern over the workload which Clippard has worked with in the past. He is put in often and his time on the mound is built up. Therefore, effects are later shown like severe fatigue. This became fairly obvious this past season, but this never took a toll on his durability. This should continue to not be tpo much of an issue as he looks forward to a healthy 2016.
