Alberto Del Rio has told the WWE through his lawyer that he will be opting out of his WWE contract according to reports on NoDQ. Del Rio is currently suspended for a violation of the company's wellness policy but is now not expected to return again.

He had an option in his contract that he could leave the company in September if he was unhappy with his position and it seems that the former World Heavyweight Champion has invoked that clause and will now be leaving WWE. Del Rio has been unhappy with his position in the company for several months now as he has found himself struggling in the mid-card becoming stale, which is why it should come as no real surprise that he has decided to leave.

Time to move on

Del Rio was reportedly offered a main event role when he originally returned to the company at Hell in a Cell, but he hasn't come close to that during his most recent run. Despite a short run with the United States Championship Del Rio has offered few memorable moments and it is no surprise he has had enough.

Even though he has been frustrated Del Rio has constantly kept his work level at its usual high standard. Del Rio returned to the company in the best physical condition of his career and his in-ring matches have been entertaining but with little storylines, it has been impossible for him to work his way up the card.

Now he is leaving the company once again it is very unlikely at this stage in his career he will be seen in the WWE again under a full-time contract and he will now move away to work elsewhere. Del Rio will be able to work in Mexico or anywhere else abroad immediately but won't be able to work in America until the end of September. That means if he plans on signing with TNA, he won't be able to debut until October.
