Ever since Goldberg was announced as the bonus character for WWE fans who pre-order the company's latest game, WWE 2K17 everyone has been left wondering if, or when, he would make a return to the WWE in an in-ring capacity and it seems like we are now very close to getting the official answer after months of speculation.

Close to an announcement?

Dave Meltzer provided fans with their biggest update yet what the future looks like for Goldberg by reporting that the former WCW World Champion and the WWE are in the midst of "very serious talks" before admitting that the deal could already be done to secure his return in the near future.

Meltzer stated that "where there's smoke there's fire" when it comes to Goldberg being involved in the video game and it seems like that is the case here. He will be appearing on ESPN this evening where he is expected to reveal details about his relationship with the company with rumors stating that he may announce his return or make an official challenge to a future opponent.

Of course, there is one obvious name fans will expect to hear be announced for Goldberg's first opponent and that is the Beast...

Survivor Series

When people have discussed the return of Goldberg they have often mentioned a repeat of WrestleMania 20's match between him and Brock Lesnar taking place again at WrestleMania 32, however, it appears WWE is planning on having that match sooner than you think.

JR announced on Twitter that he has been told by sources that Goldberg - Brock Lesnar is being scheduled for the upcoming Survivor Series event, instead of waiting until 'Mania, which means both men could be free to compete in other matches for that show. A major match between Lesnar and Goldberg would be a huge deal, especially for a show like Survivor Series which would take a massive boost by having such a blockbuster event take place.

Of course, all of these are just rumors at this point with no official statement being made by either Goldberg or WWE but the veteran wrestler has commented on the rumors on Twitter by saying, "Reading the internet...you never know who to believe do you? #WhosNext," simply adding fuel to the fire.
