Amid this week's latest Goldberg/WWE speculation were claims that the former WCW star will be facing Brock Lesnar in a match that everyone expected to happen should he return to the company. However, what people didn't expect was the timing of the match with rumors stating that WWE would want to have it take place at Survivor Series rather than WrestleMania

Of course, for any match to happen, Goldberg would need to actually sign a contract and return to the company in a larger capacity than simply appearing on a video game, but all signs are pointing to that and a collision with the Beast, so why do WWE want to have the match as soon as possible?

Reasons behind the decision

The main reason that the company wants to have Goldberg - Lesnar at Survivor Series is that it would be the closest major PPV to the release of WWE 2K17, a game that both Lesnar and Goldberg are heavily involved with this year. This would allow them to have the real life match in November and that is something WWE could promote during the peak shopping season in an attempt to sell as many video games as possible.

Not only would it help them with sales but it would make Survivor Series a big deal, with the PPV suffering in recent years a major match such as this would give the event a much-needed boost and could help see a rise in Network subscribers before the road to WrestleMania begins.

Dave Meltzer also noted that there are people with 'negative' feelings towards Goldberg backstage due to how his last run ended meaning that if they gave him a major match at the biggest show of the year it might not go down so well until he has at least attempted to win people over. On top of that, a portion of the WWE Universe also don't seem to be invested in this match after how poor it was the first time around and therefore it is better placed away from 'Mania.

The fact that this is set to be a one-off special attraction match also allows it to be placed away from 'Mania and according to reports on NoDQ.com, Lesnar's opponent for WrestleMania has been locked in for several months now and they don't want to change those plans unless they are forced to due to injury which means they have a long term plan for their biggest star, and the WrestleMania goal isn't Goldberg.
